2020 has really put everyone through the wringer. With nearly every single industry affected in some way, the world has had to adjust to a staggering new reality. However, while many of us have put our normal lives on hold, hunger hasn’t stopped. To rise to the occasion, we’ve partnered once more with Leopardo, Milhouse Engineering and Milhouse Charities for this year’s CANstruction.
To keep its participants safe, organizers decided to keep this year’s sculptural showcase in the digital realm. Teams created imaginary sculptures made exclusively with cans, fundraising separately to uphold our commitment to help Chicago’s most vulnerable.
Along with pandemic stress, Chicago has also gone through a period of civil unrest spurred by systemic injustice. Donning the team name CHANGEMAKERS, our goal is to bring attention to the inequities that exist in our community and the nation. The iconic Chicago bridges, which were built to connect our diverse neighborhoods and bring us together, have been recently raised to keep us apart. These raised bridges have been a weekly reminder of the inequality present in Chicago.
