We are thrilled to announce that OKW’s fundraisers for this year have raised over $14,000 for essential charities. Our commitment to creatively advancing our communities includes donating our time, efforts, and resources to those in need and supporting our staff in these efforts.
WOMEN BUILD
October 17 2020
OKW is back for this year’s WomenBUILD in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood. With the ongoing goal of helping women in underserved neighborhoods achieve the long-term financial benefit of homeownership, OKW got the gang back together for another day of elbow grease. Build day is tomorrow and the team is incredibly excited to roll up their sleeves and get to work.
Under the leadership of our project architect Joan Russick, OKW reached and exceeded our fundraising goal of $8,000. We are still accepting donations, so if this cause is important to you, please donate to our team here.
CANSTRUCTION
August 2020
This year’s annual CANstruction design contest was held virtually to discourage the spread of COVID-19. This meant that participants were encouraged to let their creativity run rampant and envision lofty can-creations, unencumbered by the logistics of having to actually build them. Despite not using real cans, each team made sure to donate the equivalent amount to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Reuniting with our collaborators from 2019, Milhouse Engineering, Milhouse Charities, and Leopardo, OKW created a vignette from June of 2020, the raised bridges over the Chicago River. At once uniting and dividing, the image captured the divisions that exist in our city and nation. In order to “Bridge the Gap” between those with and those without, we need to come together and support each other.
Thanks to our team’s efforts, we were able to raise nearly $5,000 for the cause. Donations are still encouraged, so please visit our team page and heed the call to help.
