Press Residences

Riverside, California

This project is a reflection of Riverside, California: its architectural history as much as its cultural character and ecology.

To better fit within its context and provide as many desirable, westward views as possible, we reimagined the traditional O-shape design with a central split. This division, which lines up with the sun’s path in summer, not only divides the development between hardscape (pool, cabanas, and pergolas) and landscaped orange groves, it provides a shift in the building’s structure, thus evoking California’s famous seismic activity.

Press Residences further takes inspiration from its location by using the existing base, formerly a printing press, and extrapolating its architectural features upward. The result is a unique development that can only exist in its exact lot.
