North Shore Congregation Israel

Glencoe, Illinois

The North Shore Congregation Israel is a historic building sited on Lake Michigan and is world renowned for its original architecture, namely the main sanctuary designed by Minoru Yamasaki. OKW worked on updating the smaller Perlman Sanctuary with a material refresh and a new exterior entry, as well as ADA improvements and a roof replacement to the main sanctuary.

The new Education Wing doubles the amount of existing teaching area and incorporates classroom, administration, and collaborative learning areas. The new Family Education Center (FEC) incorporates a large multi-function, multi-media learning and conferencing room, classrooms, and offices. In addition, the FEC will provide the congregation with a new 6,000 SF roof terrace and a multi level exterior amphitheater.

Lastly, OKW created a cohesive architectural, interior design, signage and wayfinding program for the campus.
