MYLO Barrington
Barrington, Illinois
The affluent northwest-suburban community of Barrington prides itself on a sophisticated quality of life and high standards for those developing in their community. OKW’s client, a Barrington resident, saw an opportunity to develop this mostly abandoned triangular property, which is framed by train lines on two sides and its main street on the third, located a block north of its active downtown.
The unique program includes 125 luxury residential apartments above boutique retail and restaurants along Main Street, and a 37-unit car condominium community located behind the mixed-use building, framed by the rail lines.
The resulting design is sensitive to the existing scale and detail of nearby historic building architecture while also serving contemporary commercial uses and residential living. The architecture uses rich, familiar building materials, and expansive windows, doors, and patios. Rooting the development are intimate ground-floor outdoor spaces for gathering and dining and a thoughtful pedestrian streetscape.
