Central Station

Evanston, Illinois

Central Station is a signature demonstration of neighborhood infill development. As a mixed-use project along a busy street (in particular during Northwestern football games), the building combines 80 luxury apartments with 11,000 SF of retail.

The building massing enhances the quality of the street experiences through several important gestures. Most notably, the proportions relate to nearby existing apartment buildings. A generous setback from the property line enables café seating and landscaping. The retail podium carefully incorporates intricate stone and brick detailing; meanwhile the shopfronts and signage add character and visual life to the pedestrian experience.
