Not every kid who watches This Old House becomes an architect. But Neil did. At a young age the show led him to be interested in construction and problem solving, then to the realization that architecture was a profession that combines both to bring ideas to life. His natural curiosity for the built world and his proclivity for creative outlets made him a natural fit.
After earning degrees from the University of Illinois and Yale University, Neil set out to explore his passion for the practice. He quickly learned that architecture is a means to communicate: designing a brilliant space is only as effective as one’s ability to express and articulate it. He will draw on this important skill, honed during years of public speaking and on the stage, as OKW’s Director of Architecture and Planning.
Outside of the office, Neil enjoys working out, reading, gardening, and volunteering his time to Chicago’s Lifeline Theater, where he is a member of the Board of Directors. As they say, once a theater kid …
