For G, architecture is not only a combination of technology and creativity – it is an opportunity to create something deeply personal and interactive. While earning degrees from Kent State and the University of Michigan, G found excitement in architecture’s intersections with other fields, from the Ballroom scene to video games, and everything in between. They also found a particular affinity for public spaces that have been redesigned for activation by marginalized communities.
Outside of OKW, G finds enjoyment in being a creator. With hands in several different ongoing projects, they can be found making original music on guitar; working on their survival-style video game, which is based on Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower; and collecting trinkets for a readymade chess board.
Most inspiration or interesting space: Florence, Italy, where I studied abroad in school. The bustling city invigorates my soul and appreciation for art, food, architecture, and the smallest details. Because of its walkability and scale, I can really pay attention to all my senses and the rhythms of everything around me.
Favorite childhood TV show: Avatar: The Last Airbender, hands down. I wanted to be an earthbender so badly that I made it my whole personality.
If there were one skill at which you could instantly become an expert, what would it be? I would choose to become a pro at sight-reading music. If I could do this instantaneously, I could conquer any song before I became too impatient.
