Krispy Kreme “Experience of the Future”

Utica, Michigan

In a world where virtually anything can be delivered to homes instantaneously, Krispy Kreme wanted to give customers a reason to visit their store and reward them for the trip. OKW Architects, with interior design partner Studio K, used classic forms and doughnut-inspired nostalgia to create the vision that would become the prototype Experience of the Future restaurant.

To do so, the concept became a celebration of classic Krispy Kreme with newer innovations. A holistic design unified the exterior with the interior to create an energized concept with many colorful details that were tailor-made for social media. To showcase its famous assembly line and doughnut production process, we glazed a rounded exterior wall to allow everyone, even customers in the drive-thru lanes, to enjoy the creation of their favorite treats.

The resulting structure is a destination space that celebrates what it means to leave home in search of an experience. Far beyond offering a sweet treat, the new Krispy Kreme prototype offers an interactive space that its customers will want to share.
